It is shocking and alarming the rate at which unemployment
is thriving in Nigeria and the world at large. The blame game has been ongoing
for several decades as to who is responsible for this disgusting cankerworm
called “UNEMPLOYMENT”. Many say it is the
government, some say it is the system while others say job seekers themselves
are responsible for the state they have found themselves.
I am
not writing to announce who is right or wrong but to proffer a unique solution
that will help both government and society at large. The fastest way to reduce
unemployment is the “INTERNET”. This is a statement of fact. Job
seekers are not looking at this area rather; they channel all resources and
time seeking saturated white collar jobs which are gradually going into extinction.
It was estimated that over 2.8 billion users are available
all over the world (2014 Report). This makes the internet one of the most
lucrative channels of making money and connecting to the world. Last Year NCC (Nigeria Communications
Commission) published a report which I featured on my blog ICT REPUBLIC about how much is being made on monthly basis via ecommerce websites in
Nigeria.
THOSE WHO HAVE DONE
IT
In 2005, a young entrepreneur named “Seun Osewa” began a
quest on how to make money in the internet business. Does the name ring a bell?
To take you out of your mystery, he is the CEO of www.nairaland.com Africa’s largest online
forum. Nine years down the lane, Nairaland has grown big and as expected “Seun”
has become a big boy.
It is not only Seun that has achieved this feat. Other young
Nigerians have also pitched their tent in this lucrative business and are
living large.
